Our Story
Sunday Singers was founded in 2018 with a simple mission: to bring women together through the beauty of a cappella music. Our choir began as a small group of singers gathering on Sundays—the one day of the week we could step away from our routines and immerse ourselves in music. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a community bound by a shared passion for harmony and expression.
Through every song we sing, our mission is to connect with one another and with our audiences. We believe that music is a powerful force for joy and emotional balance. Each performance and rehearsal is a step in our journey toward artistic fulfillment, with the ultimate goal of sharing something meaningful and beautiful with others. Our story is one of friendship, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence in harmony.
Our Conductor
Since 2022, Sunday Singers has been led by Alona Astasheva, a talented conductor whose passion and expertise have transformed our choir. Alona’s journey in music began at the esteemed Kyiv Conservatory, where she honed her skills and nurtured a lifelong dedication to choral music. Before joining us, Alona served as one of the conductors for the world-renowned Kyiv Children’s and Youth Choir Shchedryk, an ensemble celebrated internationally for its rich tradition and artistry.
Alona’s leadership has brought a new level of professionalism to Sunday Singers. Her high standards, deep musical knowledge, and commitment to excellence have inspired us to grow as individuals and as a choir. Under her direction, we won the Kiwanis Choir Competition in both 2022 and 2023, achieving milestones that we once dreamed of. We are grateful for Alona’s guidance, which has infused our music with purpose and united us in our pursuit of harmony.
